We are Sarah and Federico, an Italian–Dutch couple, with three children – Sophie, Madelief and Sebastian – and our dog Bianca. After many years of a busy and hectic life, first in Bergamo and later in Milan, we felt the need to slow down and reconnect with nature in a more authentic way.

For a long time we searched for a country house among the hills of Val Tidone and Oltrepò Pavese, initially imagining it as a weekend retreat. In 2013 we finally found it and, almost without realizing it, we decided to make it our home.

A simple and welcoming place, with a garden and a captivating view, that inspired us to share this life choice with others. This is how the idea was born to open our home and transform it into a Lombard guesthouse, where we can welcome you and let you experience the beauty and tranquility of this corner of Oltrepò Pavese.

Bacialupo

Bacialupo is a historic farmhouse whose name dates back to 1692, as recorded in the history of Montecalvo Versiggia. After many years during which it was known as Casa Galotti, we decided to restore its original name, giving the place back its authentic identity.

Located at the foot of the ancient Castle of Montecalvo Versiggia, Bacialupo is a stone farmhouse that has been almost completely restored with respect for its original features, using natural and reclaimed materials such as wood, stone, and terracotta.

The main building is spread over three levels and offers welcoming and carefully designed spaces: a dining room with an open kitchen, a large living room, bedrooms with private bathrooms, a romantic attic room, and a historic cellar once used for storing wine.

The property also includes a renovated barn and an old annex, now converted into independent apartments, as well as a second house recently renovated with additional apartments and a portico available to guests. There are also spaces for storing bicycles, motorcycles, and cars, a large panoramic terrace, and several shared areas.

The farmhouse is surrounded by a garden, vegetable garden, orchard, and relaxation areas, with a swimming pool set in greenery overlooking the hills of Oltrepò Pavese—an ideal place to enjoy peace, quiet, and well-being.

This region comprises an area bordering with Lombardy, Liguria, Piedmont and Emilia Romagna, where the landscape, the culture and the history of those counties form a unique blend. Ideally positioned on a major trading and transit route, it also soon became a favourite place for recreational pursuits by the local nobles – activities that are still appreciated by today’s visitors.

The hilly region is characterized by a relatively dry climate in winter and an agreeable climate in summer. These local characteristics make it a suitable region for the production of grapes and delicious wines. Not for nothing does it assume the shape of a bunch of grapes. Based on surface area, Oltrepò is nowadays the second largest region of Italy dedicated to wine. It is an oasis of tranquility, yet just a stone’s throw from Milan, with beautiful nature, art, centuries old traditions and deightful delicacies.
