We are Sarah and Federico, Dutch and Italian, with two daughters, Sophie (10) and Madelief (8), and one son, Sebastian (2). We opted to live in the countryside after many busy years in the city, first in Bergamo, then in Milan, and spent almost as many years searching for a house in the hills of Piacenza and between the provinces of Milan, Piacenza and Pavia in order to enjoy the countryside during the weekend and perhaps to make it into our permanent home.

Eventually in 2013 we found our dream farmhouse. A beautiful house with a garden, surrounded by a panorama of such charm that it seduced us into making it into a B&B!

Bacialupo, Kiss of Wolf, is located at the foot of the ancient castle of Montecalvo Versiggia dominating the top of our hill. The name of our house dates from 1692 according to the history of Montecalvo Versiggia.

The house is of stone and, out of respect to its special characteristics, is almost completely restored with natural materials, recycled wood, stone and terracotta.

The house is on three levels. On the ground floor there is a large dining room with kitchen, a large living room and a big guest room with bathroom. On the first floor and second floor we have our own rooms and, in the old attic, we have created another charming guest room with bathroom. Finally, there is a large wine cellar where once the old wine grower owners kept their wine.

The house also features a barn and a large covered area which housed the old wine barrels and where we made two apartments. The lower part of the barn, completely restructured, has been converted into a kitchen for our guests, a workshop and a covered area that can be used as storage space for bicycles, motorcycles and cars, while the upper part has been converted into a big terrace.

Around the house there is a large garden with fruit trees, plants and flowers, various seating areas and a swimming pool surrounded by greenery with a fantastic view of the hills.

Oltrepò Pavese

This region comprises an area bordering with Lombardy, Liguria, Piedmont and Emilia Romagna, where the landscape, the culture and the history of those counties form a unique blend. Ideally positioned on a major trading and transit route, it also soon became a favourite place for recreational pursuits by the local nobles – activities that are still appreciated by today’s visitors.

The hilly region is characterized by a relatively dry climate in winter and an agreeable climate in summer. These local characteristics make it a suitable region for the production of grapes and delicious wines. Not for nothing does it assume the shape of a bunch of grapes. Based on surface area, Oltrepò is nowadays the second largest region of Italy dedicated to wine. It is an oasis of tranquility, yet just a stone’s throw from Milan, with beautiful nature, art, centuries old traditions and deightful delicacies.
